Product Maintenance

Ready To Wear

Our garments have been exclusively created with top-quality materials and innovative techniques. To ensure the longevity of your Thom Browne pieces, we advise storing them in a cool, dry space. In case of rain or snow, hang it up to dry. Dry cleaning is recommended on most products. Furs and leathers should be entrusted to a specialist. Please refer to care label in garment for specific cleaning recommendations.

Suiting

Hanging & Storing

When you hang a Thom Browne suit, use a thick cedar hanger. Wood absorbs any moisture buildup in the lining of your suit, and rounded edges support the shoulder pads and help your suit retain its shape. Be sure to store your suit in a breathable cupboard—don't squeeze it in. For extra protection, use a lightweight cloth garment bag to keep your suit clean, dust-free, and away from moths.

Steaming

We recommend instead using a handheld steamer, which will relax any wrinkles and freshen up the fabric without burning the fibers. If you only have an iron, please check the heat setting, use a towel as a barrier, and press and lift up rather than sliding the iron across the garment.

Dry Cleaning

To keep your suit in top condition, please only dry clean your suit with a reliable, high quality dry cleaner once or twice a year, before you retire it for the season.

Shirting

Wash your button-down shirt after each wear—deodorant and sweat stain chemicals can be extremely harmful to the shirt's fibers. You can machine wash in cold water with like colors or dry clean. Do not bleach or soak. Do not tumble dry.

For any stains, pre-treat them with a stain remover. In this case, be careful not to soak any striped grosgrain details in water for an extended period

Polos & Tees

We recommend dry cleaning or machine washing on gentle in cold water with like colors. Dry flat; do not tumble dry.

For hanging polos and t-shirts, use wooden hangers instead of wire

Jersey

Wash jersey items using a cool or cold wash temperature with like colors. Turn embellished or patterned garments inside out. Caring for jersey items in this way helps prevent shrinkage and stretching.

We recommend air drying or gently pulling your garment into the correct shape and then drying flat. Tumble dryers should be avoided as they can shrink the garment. Alternatively, you can line-dry jersey, but make sure you keep it in its original shape as much as possible. This will also help to remove creases.

Knitwear

Merino wool is easy to care for and can be washed in the normal wash cycle at 30-40℃(86-104°F). Please note that a wool detergent can harm the material. Do not tumble dry. Merino products should ideally be left flat to dry. The fabric can be washed together with rougher materials to prevent pilling.

Cotton knits can be dry cleaned or machine washed cold and left flat to dry. Tumble drying can shrink the fabric.

Cashmere knits should be dry cleaned only.

Seersucker / Linen

Do not wash. Do not bleach. Do not tumble dry. We recommend professional dry cleaning in tetrachloroethene and hydrocarbons, mild process.

Avoid ironing linen. Use only a steamer on low heat

Leather Goods

Throughout the life of your leather good, you may notice a softening of the silhouette and a naturally occurring patina. This evolution, along with the presence natural marks, wrinkles, and veins are normal and serve as proof of the uniqueness and authenticity of your product.

To preserve the shape of your leather good, avoid over-packing. When not in use, it is best to store it in the felt provided at purchase in a ventilated area. Avoid storage near or long exposure to heat sources, sunlight, or moisture as these environments may dry, damage, or deform the material.

For surface stains, we recommend cleaning with a soft cloth dampened with water. Cleaning with any solvents or chemicals should be avoided as they can remove the natural oils in the leather used to preserve the material. Chemical soaps will cause the leather to dry out, crack, and deteriorate. For additional care, bring your leather product to a professional.

Pebble grain

Condition your leather regularly. If you find that your leather is starting to dry out or crack, it may be time to moisturize the material.

Calfskin

Through a rigorous selection process, calfskin and cowhide leathers are chosen for their refinement, suppleness, and silky soft touch. To meet Thom Browne’s highest quality standards, only the best hides are selected. They may carry natural imperfections, such as veins or wrinkles.

Footwear

We recommend storing your footwear in felt bags as long-term storage in boxes without airflow may cause the materials to stiffen or crack.

For delicate leathers, we recommend servicing through a professional leather shop or cobbler.

Grained leather

Wipe any surface stains with a soft, damp cloth. Once the leather is dry, polish it in circular strokes using a high-quality, colorless cream.

Suede/nubuck

Brush with a soft shoe brush to maintain its velvety texture. These fabrics should avoid moisture. If suede/nubuck has been in contact with water, ensure you blot the area as soon as possible while simultaneously brushing.

Textiles

Shoes made of a combination of materials or fully fabric shoes must never be washed by soaking or in a washing machine. This may cause migration of color and can detach the sole from the shoe, among other damage.

Soles

Leather

Due to their porous nature, leather soles not only mold to the shape of your foot as you wear them but offer greater breathability in warmer months. Ensure you use wooden shoe trees to help the soles retain their shape and absorb excess moisture.

Metal toe & heel taps

Due to the nature of our gait on pavement, leather soles wear out fastest on the front of the toe and back of the heel. To prolong the lifespan of leather soled shoes, we offer a number of our classic brogues with metal toe & heel taps. Your local cobbler may also add these features at a later time.

Signature Parts & Hardware

Metal hardware

Thom Browne hardware is made of brass for durability with gold or silver finishing for a lustrous appearance. While resistant to damage, your accessories require special handling to ensure their longevity. To minimize the appearance of surface scratches, limit exposure to abrasive surfaces. We also suggest avoiding contact with lotions, perfumes, and hairsprays, as they can cause the metals to tarnish or oxidize prematurely.

Tricolor stripe

If your garment has a tricolor stripe as a main detail, spot clean it with damp cloth and mild soap if necessary. Avoid soaking in water to prevent color bleeding.

Grosgrain tab (clothing, footwear, leather goods)

Brushing the striped grosgrain tab, ideally with boar hair, effectively lifts dirt without causing the colors to bleed.

4-Bar name tag

As the name tags are fabricated in paper, use, washing, and dry cleaning will cause some fading to occur over time. Rather than a defect, the fading speaks to the natural evolution and uniqueness of your piece. Should you wish to slow the fading process, we recommended covering the tag with a thin, non-woven cloth before washing or dry cleaning.

Mother of pearl buttons

Due to the delicate nature of the buttons, we recommended covering them with foil before dry cleaning to prevent cracking and breakage

Eyewear

Thom Browne eyewear is made exclusively in Japan, known for its high level of precision and care.

As you wear your optical or sunglasses, the frame will naturally form to your unique face shape. We therefore do not recommend wearing your eyewear on top of your head. Doing so will cause the temples to widen and the screws to loosen.

Use a damp cloth and mild soap to clean glasses. Avoid contact with alcohol, aggressive detergents, or chemicals as these can cause the metals to tarnish or oxidize prematurely.

When not worn, it is advised to keep eyewear in its case and out of direct sunlight and high temperatures.

Warranty

Thom Browne eyewear is guaranteed against manufacturing defect for two years following purchase. This warranty also covers basic cleaning, screw tightening and small part replacement, even outside of the two-year timeframe.
